The holodeck program and the film share similar characters, Whoopi Goldberg stands in for Gloria Grahame, and Goldberg's character's name is Gloria. Additionally, both Hill and Steele have a cop for a good friend who invites them home to dinner with his wife. The plots for the holodeck program and the film are similar as well, where Hill/Steele are suspected of a young woman's murder.
